Tips on searching
With Bumper you can search a vehicle by VIN, license plate, or by year, make, and model to view vehicle records.
For Vehicle Searches, the Year, Make, and Model Search does not identify a specific vehicle, like the License Plate and VIN Searches can. As such, the following data points would not be included in a Year, Make, and Model Search, which provides more general information on vehicles.
· Detailed History
· Sale listings
· Accident History
· Salvage Records
· Theft Records -
Why no results?
Bumper is an easy-to-access collection of vehicle records. These records are collected through official government records, insurance records, and industry sources such as manufacturers and service shops. As you may have experienced, sometimes the information they collect is not always 100% correct. Sometimes records are incomplete as a result of being filtered through different systems or because of typographic errors when moving the records from paper to computerized format. Dealing with millions of records is not the easiest process and while we put every effort into making our data as accurate as possible, we are dependent upon the sources providing us with correct information.
If you haven't already, we encourage you to check out the Monitoring feature. Once Monitoring is activated, you will be notified as soon as we receive any new information in that report. -
Are my searches private?
Yes, your vehicle searches are private. Your search history is only viewable if you log into the platform, and can only be accessed by you, the owner of the account — unless you decide to show it to someone else.
Similarly, you cannot find out who has searched your vehicle. -
Where does the information from each section come from, in general? How far can you go back for the results?
Our vehicle records are collected through official government records, insurance records, and industry sources such as manufacturers and service shops. Bumper partners with a number of publicly available data providers as well as 3rd party providers of specialty data to generate the most comprehensive sets of data and information to help you find what you are looking for.
This data is often updated regularly but each provider has different capabilities when it comes to historical data. Due to the broad range of data sources we employ, not all data has the same historical timeframe. -
What searches can you do? What's included?
If you’ve signed up for a paid subscription, you have access to a limited number of reports each month! You can search by VIN number, license plate and using year, make, and model.
The Year, Make, and Model Search does not identify a specific vehicle, like the License Plate and VIN Searches can. As such, the following data points would not be included in a Year, Make, and Model Search, which provides more general information on vehicles.
· Detailed History
· Sale listings
· Accident History
· Salvage Records
· Theft Records -

Where can I see title listings? Is there any salvage or accident history?
You can find title Record, accident history and salvage record information on VIN and License Plate reports when available and you can get quick access to them by clicking the appropriate section in the report menu.
For title listings, due to the Drivers Privacy Protection Act, we do not provide personal identifiable information on the owners of the vehicles. The DPPA requires all States to protect the privacy of personal information contained in an individual’s motor vehicle record, including limiting the use of a driver’s motor vehicle record to certain purposes.
For accident history, Bumper reports may not include historical accident records for all states. We strongly recommend your own due diligence and checking additional sources for states not listed in our reports. However, salvage records are available for all 50 states. As a reminder, even for states where we may have data, we cannot guarantee the comprehensiveness/accuracy of the information provided and you should not rely solely on our data in order to determine whether or not a vehicle was ever involved in an accident. -
How do I delete reports?
To delete a report, click Recent Report from the menu in the header to view your list of previously run reports.
Towards the top right, in the Recent Reports section, click the Edit reports button.
You will then see a remove report option shown for each report, and an option at the top to remove all reports. Select Remove report for each report you wish to delete.
This will remove the report from your list of previously run reports. Please keep in mind, once you delete a report, it is not possible to 'un-do' the deletion. You would need to re-run the search, in order to view the report again.
Please note - if you attempt to delete a report you are currently monitoring, you will be notified that you are trying to delete a monitored report, and will no longer receive updates for that report. -

Canceling a dispute and getting a refund
If you are unsatisfied with the service or data we provided and would like to request a refund, or cancel your account, please contact our Customer Support center and our team will be happy to assist you.
If you have mistakenly requested a chargeback instead of a refund, you can generally cancel that dispute within 10 days, depending on your bank. Charging back a legitimate transaction will result in us being charged fees, the permanent suspension of your account, and the refund, if issued, potentially taking longer to post to your account (plus we reserve the right to challenge your dispute with the bank).
Our customers’ satisfaction is of the utmost importance. If you require assistance, have any questions about your subscription, or are simply not sure how to proceed, please visit our FAQ section or contact us. -
Can I request to remove safety ratings?
No, safety ratings are administered and provided to us by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Any request for changes would need to be sent to them directly.
